I almost never read books for myself these days, but I will make an exception. Just finished this book about Zabar's, written by Lori Zabar about the Upper West Side deli started by her immigrant grandparents. At first I thought, ok, written in-house, it'll be some weird self-published cheesiness, but no, the book was crisp and funny and poignant. Lori was an attorney, art historian and researcher at the Met. She died from cancer in February, two months before the book came out. Her dad and uncle, both in their 90s, still work at the store.
