Joseph: "Mama, what's 9,960 plus 40?" Me (thinking hard): "10,000." Joseph: "What's 9,900 plus 100?" Me (thinking harder): "10,000." This went on for a while. Joseph asked about 9,400 plus 600, 6,000 plus 4,000. It started to freak me out. The answer was too consistently 10,000 to be accidental. Joseph has always loved numbers, and now he is enjoying playing with really big numbers in his head. This picture has nothing to do with numbers. It's just Joseph quietly thrilled to hold a little bird at the zoo.
